Breathing through contractions

Breathing does not need to be perfect to be useful. Pick a rhythm that helps you stay focused and return to it when the contraction changes.

Try a steady pattern

  • Relax your shoulders.
  • Inhale gently through the nose if comfortable.
  • Exhale longer than you inhale.
  • Let your partner count quietly only if that helps.
